WHERE LEARNING MEANS MORE THAN ACADEMICS.

Battle Monument School is a Baltimore County Public Schools special school serving students whose educational programs require highly individualized instruction and support.

Here, learning includes reading and math, but it also reaches far beyond a traditional classroom. Communication, functional life skills, social and emotional growth, mobility, participation, and greater independence are all part of helping each student reach their potential.

That language reflects Battle Monument’s current mission and vision, which emphasize academics alongside communication, functional skills, social/emotional development, and independence.

BUILT AROUND THE STUDENT — NOT A ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL CLASSROOM.

Every student arrives with different strengths, needs, ways of communicating, and goals for the future. Battle Monument brings educators, instructional assistants, therapists, nurses, specialists, families, and other professionals together around individualized educational programs.

That means progress may look different from one student to the next — and that is exactly the point.

BATTLE MONUMENT IS NOT A TRADITIONAL ENROLLMENT SCHOOL

Battle Monument is part of Baltimore County Public Schools’ special education continuum. Placement is based on a student’s individual educational needs and is determined through the BCPS special education and IEP process.

Families do not apply to Guardians of Battle Monument for school placement, and Guardians does not make placement, IEP, or educational-programming decisions.

BCPS identifies Battle Monument as a special school, and its Placement Office oversees the continuum of special education placements.
